Kids Art Easels - Encourage Creativity

Dual Art EaselMany, if not most kids, are just naturally creative. They are wonderfully uninhibited and crave any opportunity to share their artistic view of the world. One of the best ways to encourage their artistic expression is with a kids art easel. There are many differing styles and constructions of easels that cover the gamut for kids of age three and up. Most children younger than three years old cannot be trusted with the many small parts and pieces that could end up in their mouths and cause a problem, but this should not prevent them from enjoying drawing. There seems to be no end to the artistic potential for these young Rembrandts. Just get them a kids art easel; then stand back and watch.

Variety of Easels

The available variety of easels ranges from the very basic to complete artistic production centers. It can be a lot of fun just reviewing the choices.

Easel Selection

One of your first considerations in making you selection of an art easel is the age of your child. You will, of course, want to consider what you child may or may not like. The right choice for your three or four year old might be a multi-colored plastic easel, while your “grown up” ten or eleven year old might prefer a more adult looking wooden model. Then there are multitudes of accessories to consider. Depending on the basic style and construction you select to match your child’s age and sophistication level, there might be magnetic letters and numbers, removable trays for art supplies and you may even choose a double sided easel with more than one type of work surface. Some easels have a white board on one side for drawing and hanging paper, with a chalk board on the other side for an entirely different drawing experience. There is a new paint product that allows you to paint an area of the wall and it becomes like either a chalk board or a white board. I have used the white board product and it is awesome. This could be dangerous from the stand point that children may not understand the difference between where they can and cannot draw on the wall. So it is suitable for an older child.

As you can already see, making the selection of which easel to buy could take a little time. Once you have narrowed the choices using the age and sophistication factor, you can begin to compare the features and price points. That will further narrow the choices. If possible, you might want to leave the final decision up to your child if you think he or she is old enough to make the selection. You know how much you like to be able to make your own choices. Kids are not all that much different when it comes to choosing an easel and art supplies for themselves.

Painting on Easels

Once the choice is made, there are so many things they can do with their new kids art easel. They could paint on paper with washable paints. They could finger paint with non-toxic poster paint or use magnetic letters to learn their alphabet or begin to spell words and learn to count with magnetic numbers. If there is a chalk board they can draw to their heart’s content or use erasable markers if there is a whiteboard. Of course, all of those options depend on which easel was selected.

It is extremely important for youngsters to have a way to express themselves artistically. The more we learn about how the human mind works the more we come to understand how early in childhood kids begin to learn communication skills, problem solving and develop self-confidence. Easels for kids are a wonderful way to help them open new vistas for learning and creativity.
